The sweat lodge is an important ritual used by Native American Indians as a ceremonial sauna to purify the mind, body and soul combination. The Lodge symbolizes the womb of Grandmother Earth and the heated stones represent her body supporting life. The fire is used to heat the rocks on the outside of the tarpit and represent the perpetual light. Once these stones are brought into the lodge the water is poured upon them to create steam which permeates the air, creating hot, humid atmosphere conductive of the energies that are invited into the lodge.
All four elements of earth, fire, water and air combined with our ancestors energies creates an atmosphere of intense release for many as you sit in the dark unable to distract your attention from yourself through observing others. The flap is opened on three occasions to allow the firekeeper to enter more hot stones into the pit, as the heat builds and becomes more intense. There are four part of the ceremony, as the stones are brought in for the first part we will led in a chant, by Patti, the door is then closed and the sweat begins. More water is poured as the chief, Lyn offers prayers for self, others and for releasing pain and suffering. Each round offers new test of endurance of the heat, your feelings and yourself.
I love these sweats and I am very lucky to have Lyn who has been healing for many years and founder of the Wild Rose Dream Lodge since 1993. Our Reiki energy adds a new dimension to the sweats and I look forward to many stories that we share after our experience together as we eat our pot luck at Doug's who is our firekeeper and host of the sweats in Pasadena.
Please join the mailing list to be informed of these events as they fill quickly and space is limited. The sweat is $30 and please bring a pot luck dish so that we can feast together afterwards. The first sweat by Lyn & Patti will be on August 16th a beautiful Full Moon, so be prepared to let it all go.......!
